Physical Education

All students are required to participate in PE and such activities as planned by the instructor unless a written excuse from a doctor is presented.

Bible Classes

Bible is taught at all grade levels through age-appropriate curriculum. ECA’s curriculum has been developed by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and is Bible-focused and Christ-centered.

Students in the primary grades learn character-building lessons from the stories of the Bible. Scripture memorization is a part of the learning. Bible classes for students in the middle and upper grades are more issues focused. Students are invited to see Jesus as a loving Friend and an important part of their daily life.

It is the goal of ECA staff members that every student make a decision to accept Jesus as their personal Savior. Parents are encouraged to come to the school and study the Bible curriculum. It is vital that parents understand and can support their child’s religious education.

Incompletes for Grades 7 to 10

Incomplete grades in any subject must be made up within a nine week period. Failure to make up an incomplete within this time may result in the grade becoming an “F.”

Homework

Homework is given to students to aid in their intellectual development and to foster independent study habits. Homework may include a wide variety of activities in many curriculum areas. The type, frequency, or quantity of homework is determined by the needs of the individual student. Parents can support a child’s interest in lifelong learning by encouraging good study habits and providing a learning environment in the home.

Grade Reports

Grade reports are issued at the end of each nine week grading period. First and third quarter reports are available at parent-teacher conferences and the school mails second and fourth quarter grade reports to parents. Freshman and sophomore grade reports are mailed from the Portland central office.

Visits from Parents

Grade reports are issued at the end of each nine week grading period. First and third quarter reports are available at parent-teacher conferences and the school mails second and fourth quarter grade reports to parents. Freshman and sophomore grade reports are mailed from the Portland central office.

Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences

Conferences are scheduled on a school-wide basis twice during the year so that teachers, parents and students may confer on the student’s progress. These conferences are held after first quarter and again after the third quarter. Conferences can be arranged at other times as well by the request of the parent, student, or teacher. To provide optimum use of classroom time, parent-teacher conferences should be held outside of school hours.

Honor Roll

ECA promotes and recognizes academic excellence. At the end of each quarter the school posts the Honor Roll lists for students in grades 5 to 10.

Drop Policy for Grades 7 to 10

During the first three weeks of a quarter, a student may drop an elective class without any penalty. After the fourth week of the semester, a student may receive a W/P grade (withdrew while passing) or W/F grade (withdrew while failing.) A student must have a written parental permission to drop a class at any time during the semester.

Academic Probation

It is the goal of Emerald Christian Academy administration and staff to have every student working at his/her full academic potential. In order for this to happen, the school must have the cooperation and combined efforts of students and parents. The parents will need to help their student by providing direction and encouragement in good study habits. This would include a specific time and place for study each evening. Study and school projects must take a high priority. If a student receives a midquarter (4½ weeks) grade point average below 1.5 (D+) in a given quarter (nine weeks) the parents will be contacted in writing by the principal and/or teachers, and the student placed on academic probation. If academic improvement is not evident on completion of the quarter (a grade point average of 1.5 or above) the student may be asked to seek alternative schooling arrangements.
