Effective Thinking and Decision Making

Our minds have a built-in, dynamic structure – a fundamental process or pathway that we use every day to make sense of the world and to reach decisions about what actions we should take. Most of us are unaware of exactly what this process is and how it works, yet much of the time we manage to cooperate with it quite well. When we do, we grasp situations accurately and make good choices. But when we block or short-circuit the process − and this happens all too often – we end up with oversights, confused ideas, poorly designed plans, stagnant or deteriorating situations, and loss of trust.

At inVia we help people become more familiar with this iterative process in themselves. We show them how to practice “staying on the path” so they can become consistently better at asking intelligent questions, making sense of situations, finding a good fit between problems and solutions, reaching sound judgments, avoiding groupthink, recognizing and correcting their mistakes, dealing appropriately with feelings, and making responsible and effective decisions.

In particular, we work with individuals, teams, and organizations to improve their thinking and decision making skills in connection with −
  • Planning
  • Managing change
  • Knowledge management
  • Communication
  • Work-life issues
  • Leadership development
